CHAPELET

Chapelet de première communion ayant appartenu à Théotime Gaudet (1859-1950). Théotime avait 10 ou 11 ans en 1870 lorsqu’il communia et célébra de fait l’Eucharistie pour la première fois. Sa famille est originaire de Memramcook, Nouveau-Brunswick, mais il vécut la majeure partie de sa vie à Sainte-Marie-de-Kent, N.-B., où il pratiqua le métier de meunier. D’après le recensement fédéral de 1871, il y habitait déjà avec ses parents et ses frères et sœurs. Ainsi, sa première communion eut surement lieu à Sainte-Marie et non à Memramcook.

Notons aussi que la paroisse de Sainte-Marie fut érigée en 1867, soit l’année même de la fondation du dominion du Canada.

 

ROSARY

First Communion rosary having belonged to Théotime Gaudet (1859-1950). Théotime was aged 10 or 11 when he received the Eucharist for the first time in 1870. His family was originally from Memramcook, New Brunswick, but he lived most of his life in Sainte-Marie-de-Kent, N. B., where he worked as a miller. According to the federal census of 1871, this is where he resided with his parents and siblings. Thus, his first communion was likely in Sainte-Marie and not Memramcook.

It is interesting to note that Sainte-Marie-de-Kent was founded in 1867, the same year as the founding of the Dominion of Canada.
